Happy August! And Sunday!
This has been the strangest year so far. With the Plague, the Murder Hornets and Bounties on our troops, and everyone losing their everloving mind!
Let’s start with the plague. OU Boy and I had this before it had a name. It turned into pneumonia and while he bounced back, I did not. Six weeks of feeling horrible and finally just about the time they named it, I was better.
We went to the beach for a week in Texas and did not come into contact with anyone and we arrived home just as Texas became a hot spot.
On our days off we headed to a secluded lake and camped and hiked and turned off the news! Then one of the employees tested positive and came into work to tell us. SMH
So everyone got tested and they were all fine. And then I got it again. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. Okay, that’s probably not true. Trump and his entire crime family could have it. It was bad. My doctor told me I was wheezing and put me on a nebulizer and steroids and the Z pac. Then told me I should probably go to the hospital.
I did not listen as I knew there were really sick and contagious people there. So home we go and I used the breathing machine for 4 solid days but tossed the meds. I tried explaining that it was swimsuit season and steroids make me bloat and I was allergic to the antibiotic. Finally this week I felt human. I was floating in my pool with a mask every day. So that explains where I have been. Much the same as everyone we are still in limbo with work and why in the world people keep coming from Texas and Florida and Iowa and complaining because Marriott is requiring a mask or you can leave. Some people have been downright violent. The world has lost its mind.
Curacao is still not letting us in so we have rebooked for November hoping we can, at last, get back. I hope you have all been well and I have missed reading your thoughts and adventures!
See you tomorrow!
It’s been a minute since we’ve talked. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.
The amount of tea that has been consumed in my house is ridiculous! And for some reason, we are really loving any Peach Ginger combinations. My favorite is Harney and Sons but Bigelow and Tazo have some nice ones as well. Baking seems to be a popular activity now that people have time at home. I went to the open-air farmer’s market last weekend and brought home such nice vegetables and fruits. Plus my baking lady had finally perfected her Snickerdoodle Bread. It’s a quick bread, like banana bread and such and it was good. After making some Chai to go with it I had a lightbulb moment and decided to do a Chai Bread. Brilliant.
I have a freezer full of baked goods and premade meals. My house is spotless, my car is clean, the refrigerator even got a scrub! From ceiling to floor, it’s been disinfected. I planted my garden and all of my herbs are doing great. Especially the mints.
We have been going camping every week. Leaving Thursday afternoon and returning on Sunday. We plan to visit every lake and state park. So far we have done Lake Murray, which is amazing. Shawnee Twin Lakes, Arbuckle Mountains and we have reservations for Ft. Cobb State Park for tomorrow through Sunday. We will meet up with the grands and do some boating and fishing. The SUV is packed and ready to go. All I need to do is pack the cooler and we are out of here.
The gym opened yesterday and we were the only ones there and it felt wonderful!
A sweet treat that is better than the one at Tropical Smoothie Cafe’. I tossed watermelon, mint from my garden and ice. Boom! Watermelon Smoothie.Full of Vitamin C and it is so good! We have made quite a few smoothies with strawberries we are getting now from Bootstrap Farm.
Today we are off to ride bikes. Stay safe and Be well!
We had a ton of good books come out today! It’s a beautiful day and later there may be a tornado or two. Who knows?
In the lovely state I am currently in things have opened back up! Not every town. It’s up to the mayors. But the Governor, who is dumb as a box of rocks, speaks like Trump and can’t string an entire sentence together, is needing that oil and gas money! In OKC proper, our Mayor is letting the stay home order expire on Friday.
As we went for a ride in the car yesterday we saw things pretty much back to normal. Home Depots had lines out the door and massage parlors are open. Hmm… Redo your garden or get naked after a month at home. Nope.
I have been inhaling this Octavia Chocolate Earl Grey Tea. It is so mellow and the aroma is delicious. I had my window in the kitchen open and a neighbor walked by and asked what smelled so good. I’m using this photo for inspiration because we finally have a date to leave for Curacao! June 4th. Look out y’all. We shall return when this mess is over.
Have a great Tuesday. We are going to the lake with the bikes. Be Safe. Wear a Mask. Don’t piss off the cat, she’s ready for you to go back to work.
So I have the flu. There are only three symptoms, they (Dr.) say, cough, fever and sore throat. Unlike the lottery, my chances were pretty darn good after entertaining people with germy children.
I’m not even checking the mail! OU Boy brought home masks that look like something out of an Avengers movie and I have lysoled the heck out of every surface! Really well. OU Boy thought he would hop back into bed this morning only to find his pillow damp from the can of Lysol I sprayed on it.
For about 30 minutes yesterday, I thought I felt better but then my body showed me it was not better. Fever, sore throat and coughing and I become Vivien Leigh draped over a chaise lounge telling anyone who will listen that I am dying and need more tea.. deep sigh.
This is my spot. I claimed it and all my germs are contained under this quilt my sister made for me. So far I have been downing the Bigelow Benefits Teas hourly. I made a green superfood smoothie, I’m mainlining Suja’s Lemon-Cayenne sugar-free juice hoping to kill the germs. And I read an entire book The Jane Austen Society, coming later this year.
For a lot of people, it is Ash Wednesday. I reminded OU Boy that mass is at 7 tonight and he said, “So which one of our pagan holidays have you appropriated now?” Me, ” Dude, I don’t know, just let them put ashes on your forehead and move on.” See, that is how sick I am. I did not dig into my vast bag of encyclopedia-like knowledge, I just said “whatever.”
Be Well. And for cripes sake, keep your sick kids home.
Happy Mardi Gras! My favorite time of the year. Parades, balls, King Cake, beads, everything purple, green and gold.
Today is a frenzy of people dragging their huge boxes of beads, cups and other throws onto a float with 40 other people dressed just like you. And one 5-gallon bucket in the closet for all of us to use. And since we have been drinking since that first Mimosa at 8 a.m., that bucket is in high demand.
While we all take our places and the parade rolls. Today we will roll once during the day and again at night. And then, Lent. Go to church and get your ashes and forget sugar for 40 days. That’s probably sacrilegious, but it’s true. And for once I am glad. We have the plague. Yep. That’s what it is. Why? Well, we went and hung out with adults who have children. Those little germ mongers are relentless.
Have yourself a fun time tonight and be safe!
Monday, as much as I love that the sun is shining brightly and the lawn is full of leaves, where is the snow? Come on now, weatherman, you keep promising and nothing happens.
I am happy to announce that we are on the mend! OU Boy went back to work today and my fever finally broke. We started to feel semi-human last night. I made a huge pot of collard greens because we had no sense of smell, and let’s be honest, they stink. By the time they were done, we were ready for bed so they went down the garbage disposal. That’s what we do now. Cook one food, not eat it, toss it in the bin. Last night in bed OU Boy is looking up Baked Mac and Cheese recipes so I’m guessing his appetite is back and he wants his Thanksgiving meal.
Did everyone hit up the Black Friday Sales? I don’t do those. Mainly because I don’t put on pants that time of day, much less leave the house. Saturday after the big shoot out at the Hyatt was over and the room locked up, we watched football. Two days of football where my Dawgs whooped butt and Bama got knocked off by Auburn. So sweet! Also, Pat Sullivan passed away on Sunday. A Heisman Winner from Auburn who I loved. Rest softly, sir!
And of course, we had excitement! Saturday afternoon we saw a fire truck, ambulance, and a few police cars storm into our neighbor’s house. We poked our heads out because we are nosey. We could hear her screaming from our house and thought she must be injured or something. No. She was drunk and her team lost. The nice paramedics took her to the hospital for some much-needed reflection. OSU fans…sheesh.
It was when we went outside that I realized what I was wearing. OU Boy said it best. “You look like some Amish saloon dancer.” I had on my white Laura Ingalls nightgown with thigh-high knee socks and a full-length purple cardigan. It’s called Layering. Fever goes up, all the clothes go on. Fever goes down, there go the sweater and socks. It was at that point I figured I should take a shower.
I hope y’all had a great weekend and made some amazing memories!
It’s Friday! And this is what I am reading this weekend. I think it may be her best one yet and that is saying a lot!
We are all trying to recover from upper respiratory infections, eye surgeries and asthma attacks. Corbin was so sick the poor baby threw up on himself on the toilet! Then on the floor, like a cat or something. The good thing was we are all sick so we just don’t care anymore. We spent the Fourth in the hospital and hopefully this week-end we will be better.
So it’s a nice hot soak in some Epsom Salts and reading!
Have a great weekend Y’all!
