Silenced in Sequins (Resale Boutique Mystery #2)

Resale Boutique Mystery #2

Former Manhattan fashion buyer Kelly Quinn is turning her grandmother’s outdated consignment shop into her quaint hometown’s hot spot for upscale style—until her second-hand couture makes the scene of an ice-cold crime . . .

Kelly is still determined to make her inheritance, the Lucky Cove Resale Boutique, her grandmother’s store, a success. With Black Friday coming up she is giving it her all to turn a profit. And when one of the Long Island Ladies (Reality Show) Wendy, stops by to consign some of her designer duds.

Unbeknownst to Kelly, her shop assistant sold one of the gowns to another LIL! The diva Diana Delacourt. You just know with a name like that she is going to be a diva. But when Diana shows up at an event wearing the dress, Wendy humiliates her and Diana runs out.

The next morning Kelly stops by to check on her only to find her lying in the snow dead. With Wendy being the prime suspect, she demands that Kelly help clear her name or Kelly’s step-mother may not get the open slot on the show.

Although she’s been warned by police to stay out of this, she isn’t going to do that. No, she’s going to go digging around and putting a big old target on her own back!

Debra Sennefelder is one of my favorite authors. This one is perfect to kick off the new year!

Have a Deadly New Year by Lynn Cahoon Congratulations on Release Day!

Have a Deadly New Year (Farm-to-Fork Mystery #3.5)

A Farm-to-Fork Novella

Chef Angie and her helpers from The County Seat are catering a private dinner in a huge house in the mountains for a celebrity with the deal being the crew get to stay in the house for a week, to think up new menu items and try them out.

This should be a good New Year for them all. Should be. Until the drummer is found with a drumstick in his chest. With a snowstorm on the way in and the entire crew and band stuck in the same house, tensions escalate quickly! These were some seriously nasty people.

Angie and her crew put on their sleuthing caps and try to figure out which one of the people they are living with is a killer. Who would want our drummer dead? Turns out quite a few people!

I love the idea of the holiday-themed novellas that Ms. Cahoon does. We get a little update on our favorite characters and series while waiting for the new full-size books.

Out of all the series, she writes this is the one I was on the fence about. And now it’s one of my favorites. The characters and settings are so real I fully expect to drive into Idaho and have lunch!

Great Job!

Memories and Murder (A Tourist Trap Mystery # 10)

A Tourist Trap Mystery #11

Fall has come to South Cove, the lovely town that is home to Coffee, Books, and More, owned by our coffee making, crime-solving Jill Gardner.

While we are all still reeling from Aunt Jackie’s abrupt break up with the man who worships her. Aunt Jackie isn’t talking about it. She is, however, acting very odd!

Love is in the air all over South Cove and Amy has Jill helping her with her wedding. The mayor is doing his best to get information on Greg running for mayor this year and is being very persistent.

When Jill hosts a talk at the shop on elder abuse, given by Paula, from the Senior Project, she isn’t really listening. But when she finds out Aunt Jackie is receiving strange phone calls from a man claiming to be her dead husband, Jill is suspicious. Is he a con man?

While Jill chases down leads on the mystery man, Greg is busy with murder. Paula’s boyfriend is dead, and she is looking good for murder. But Jill doesn’t believe it. Proving it may get her killed!

I have been with this series since the beginning. Jill has grown into a confident and strong woman. That is one thing I love about Lynn’s books, you can see the growth in each character and that is a hard thing to do.

This author has proven once again that she is one of the best in the Cozy Genre.

A Killing by the Sea (A By the Sea Mystery #2)

The breathtaking barrier island of Melbourne Beach, Florida, is every tourist’s fantasy—until murder washes ashore . . .

Indialantic By The Sea in Melbourne, Florida, is home for Liz Holt. Has been for generations and now she is back home after a bad relationship and an injury she would rather not talk about. Back with Aunt Amelia and the quirky characters who own the shops in the Emporium, she is feeling safe and loved and just maybe she can write again.

But before she can settle in to write, a body washes up on their beach. The body of a local fisherman. But it doesn’t look to Liz like an accident. So with their big Pirate’s Weekend coming up and her guy, Ryan, she’s poking her curious nose in dangerously close to a killer while a hurricane is getting closer by the moment.

There is a lot of action going on in this second book of the series. The characters are what make the book. They are all so well done and real. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Historically Dead ( A Stitch in Time Mystery) by Greta McKennan

Historically Dead (A Stitch in Time Mystery #2)

Seamstress Daria Dembrowski must find a historically-minded killer before the fabric of her peaceful town rips wide open . . .
When the reality show My House in History comes to Laurel Springs, Pennsylvania, savvy seamstress Daria Dembrowski sees a business opportunity. The show follows two elderly sisters’ quest to restore their colonial mansion, and that means a heap of work for a seamstress who specializes in historical textiles. Although one of the old women is a bit of a grump, Daria loves the job—until she discovers one of the researchers dead, and the whole project threatens to unwind.

The professor was researching the sisters’ famous ancestor, Revolutionary War legend Samuel Compton, and died after finding evidence that Compton was a traitor. As a series of historical crimes pile up, from a stolen Paul Revere platter to a chilling incident of arson, Daria must find the killer quickly, for her life is hanging by a thread.

This is the second book in the Stitch in Time Mysteries.

When Daria heard about the reality show My House in History, a contest among several homes being restored to their original interiors. Out go the appliances and everything else that isn’t true to the 1770’s.

The house is owned by elderly sisters Ruth and Priscilla Compton, they are the relatives of Revolutionary War hero Samuel Compton. These two women are as different as night and day. One so sweet and docile and one so gruff and suspicious.

Daria herself lives in one of those big,old houses with her brother and roommate. She used to share it with a boyfriend who turned out to be an unsavory character.

However when the professor turns up dead in his office the man himself turns up as an attorney for the show.

What does he want now? What did the professor uncover? There are more than just a few nasty little characters in here. The start of the book I had trouble getting into. And at the end of the book, I still didn’t feel any connection to them.

I like the idea of cozy mystery in a historical setting. All in all I enjoyed learning the history lesson and really enjoyed the ladies.
