Valentine’s Day Tea is Here! And it’s Chocolate! Oh, and Snow…

Harney and Sons Teas have their Valentine’s Day Tea out! I was at Barnes and Noble checking out a book when I accidentally wandered into their Starbucks. ( Okay, it wasn’t on accident.)  And lo and behold there it was. So I asked it in my nicest voice, to come home with me. So technically I ‘adopted’ it and did not ‘buy’ any more tea.

What does it smell like? Chocolate. Yep. Ingredients are black tea, chocolate flavor, and vanilla flavor and rose petals. If you followed my tea blog then you know I am not one to just steep and sip. Nope. I had a small piece of Godiva chocolate left and I plopped it in the tea and stirred. Decadent. And since the weatherman actually got the snow forecast correct for once, it was a good day for a treat like this! Yesterday we woke up to about 5 inches of snow. The good kind that isn’t slush. So it was cold and icky and chocolate tea sounded heavenly.

I am so happy that January is over. It seemed to last a year! And for us it was horrible. But February is okay so far and no one has died or given birth or started making meth. I stopped watching the news. OU boy got suspended from Twitter for angering the orange man. So proud.

Since the Coronavirus, my tea shipments from China are at a halt. Bummer. Says the lady with hundreds of boxes of tea hoarded away. Maybe now I’ll catch up on my tea reviews.

Stay warm my friends and be kind. Because aren’t we all tired of ugly?

Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can See

Black Friday has dawned exactly as its name suggests. Gloomy, dark, drizzle…uh.

It has been a horrible week and I am so glad it is over! In the continuing saga of ‘Is it the flu or pneumonia?’ I can now tell you officially it is pneumonia. OU Boy came in Wednesday afternoon and promptly passed out. Literally, passed the F out on the floor! So it was off to OU Med, where I explained to the E.R. nurse that we had been sick for days but now he was much worse. The nurse said, “Where is he? “I said, “Propped against the wall on the bench over there. And can I please have a face mask. There are germs in here.”

Turns out he was severely dehydrated to the point of his blood work being ‘wonky’. That is a medical term. So bags of fluids and antibiotics were given and in a few hours, we were sent on our way by the lovely doctor who wanted us home for Thanksgiving.

At least now he was no longer throwing up and felt stronger. He ate a cracker. I drank tea. Then we looked up the antibiotic she had prescribed and found out it has been taken off the market! 30,000 deaths and it’s still on store shelves! It has a Black Box Warning and must be off all shelves by 2020. WHAT??? Just go ahead and use it all up? Nope. The side effects were horrible. Basically, it said you could just lay there for 5 days and if you didn’t die, well, you were better. The doctor was appalled and we are not taking that one.

Turkey Day I put the bird in the oven and we spent the day in bed whining and coughing and spitting into cups while blowing our noses. It was disgusting. By the time I remembered there was a bird in the oven, it was done. That was when we realized that we had roasted it upside down and left the icky bits inside. That went to the trash bin quickly. After that, we gave up and went back to crackers and tea.

Hold on, it gets worse! Just after midnight OU Boy gets a call that the police are at one of our hotels and a woman is dead and a man in the hospital. Still not clear on all the details of how he got in their room, he was a Bounty Hunter and I can’t believe they just let him in. So he shot the woman on the loveseat and the man in the room somewhere. This is Oklahoma so that guy was just an idiot. He is so lucky the managers on duty didn’t pull out their own guns and shoot him. He never checked in to let us or the police know what was going down. Now he’s in jail.

So Black Friday, can you top that? I don’t think so. OU Boy is waiting for the scene to clear and I am hacking up a lung in bed wondering why The View is still on when all they do is yell at each other. On the good side, I’ve read 4 books in two days. 2019 reviews are in the draft folder.

I hope you all enjoy your long weekend and be kind, you really never know how much one act of kindness could mean to someone. Let someone else have the parking spot by the door, be thankful you can walk. Smile at the cashiers! Don’t be an asshat.

Gratitude turns what we have into enough. Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Wednesday! I’m sure the markets are packed with last-minute shoppers for tomorrow’s Thanksgiving feasts!

Since OU Boy has the flu and it is awful, we aren’t doing any huge thing this year. Being grateful that the Native Americans gave us refugees dinner that one time before we slaughtered them all and now will feed us at their casinos.

This year has been up and down. Much like everyone’s I imagine. The good, the bad and the oh so ugly! One thing I have learned is that you should believe people when they show you who they are the first time. I am thankful for the community of support for Crohn’s Disease and Anxiety Disorders. I am thankful for a husband who loves me faults and all and shows me every day!

I’m thankful for all of the book bloggers and authors we support. And Free Speech! I am thankful that I have created a family that I need and didn’t just accept the one they gave me. Whoever ‘they’ are. And we are all thankful for pie. And tea. And books. And Kindness. Sprinkle that shit liberally on all of your holiday celebrations.

And share. Whether it’s a plate of turkey or a slice of pie, share with someone. And my final piece of advice, you are now an adult, which means you can eat Thanksgiving food any time of the year you want! Yes!!

What did one turkey say to the other? “What are you thankful for?” “Vegetarians”.

Gobble, Gobble.

THIS IS YOUR YEAR TO SPARKLE!

Good Morning Y’all. Today is the release of The Hanging Psalm by Chris Nickson from Severn House and Murder at the Queen’s Old Castle by Cora Harrison also from Severn House.

January 2019 is chock full of good books coming out! From Cozy Mysteries to Horror, our favorite authors are giving us a lot to read!

Today is a great day to kick back with a book, a cup of tea and for me, listen to the rain.

Enjoy your day. Read a book. Be Nice! Cheers to another year of sharing books.

Poor Emily Post Must Be Rolling Over In Her Grave!

sunday

Well it’s noon here and I’m still lazing around in bed with a huge mug of tea. I feel like I’ve missed that window of opportunity to get up and gt dressed so I may as well see this through and stay where I’m at. I’m no quitter.

I’m currently reading Odd but True by Cat Winters, which doesn’t come out until September so you’ll have to wait until then to hear about it!

It’s been a regular show down at the O.K. Corral up in Washington. So I am trying my best not to react with a scathing article on grownups acting like 4 year olds! No, that’s not quite true. Our four-year old would never behave that badly in public.

What in the world has happened to Kindness? My theory? I’m so glad you asked…Kindness needs to be modeled by the people who are raising you. I learned about kindness from my father. He was kind to everyone he met. And not some phony way. It was in him, and he taught us all to be the same way. It costs nothing to be kind. And it costs nothing to defend those who are and to avoid those that aren’t.

Emily Post must be rolling over in her grave! Manners, people! Use them, get some and teach your children about them. Basically if you can’t think of something nice to say, smile and move on. Oh, for those of you who don’t know who Emily Post is, she was an American author famous for writing about etiquette ( or how to behave in public)

Back to reading! Have a safe and peaceful Sunday!

La vie est belle!

I don’t have a book review for today and since I’m all caught up, today I’m reading Don Winslow’s The Force.

This past week has been a rough one. Just as we get out of one hospital, I go in another hospital. A couple of days before OU Boy had his issues, I got bit by something while at the lake. On my back. Not sure what but didn’t give it a thought as I never get bit by mosquitos or bugs. Ever. And I certainly didn’t give it any thought when I was sitting in CICU. But yesterday I just felt awful and my back hurt in that area right below your scapula.

I called the doctor and the doctor said (nothing about monkeys on the bed!) get thyself here!  Well the dang thing had gotten infected and know he was using words like cut, pack, and that awful three-letter p word. So now I can’t sleep on my left side still because of the corneal transplant and now I can’t sleep on my back.

By this time I think I was just numb. Sleep deprived and sluggish. As we both lay on different sofas last night I said, “Man I really hope this isn’t the night the Zombies come because we would just have to lay there and take it!”

I wanted to take a second here to say that yes, we have been through hell and back since last Thursday, but along the way we have met the most amazing people! People who could relate to what had happened and we don’t feel alone. Everytime we have needed anything, it just mysteriously appears. People show up with juicy summer fruits and all types of greens and tea that are healing and comforting. And of course everyone at OKCGCC have been exceptional. We love them all!

And y’all…well y’all are just flat-out amazing. You are all busy people I know. But the thoughts and comments have really lifted me up and for that I can never say Thank You enough!

Try A Little Kindness..Please…

You know how much it costs to be kind? Zip, Zero, Nada, Not a Cent! Lately I’ve been reading about bloggers being harassed by indie authors. Not Kind. Some advice? Do. Not. Engage. With. Trolls. Ever. I do not. I am busy, I don’t have time to re-live junior high.

It is possible to just read something and move on. I don’t eat meat, but I follow a lot of bloggers that do. Why? Because they have great ideas and I love creative people.

So let’s try a little harder to be grown ups and be kind to one another, if you must respond to some snarky teenager, a Thank you for your opinion, Bless your heart! is the Southern girls F*** you.  It’s a secret, so don’t go blabbing it all over the blogosphere.

I’m heading to the lake to read and take a nap!

xx Patricia

Thank You! You Look Gorgeous!❤

Great Sunday to you all!❤ Here in the U.S. it is Superbowl Sunday. Football 🏈

And as much as we love cheering on our teams we love the commercials more. Unless one of those teams pays your bills and then it’s understandable to put said team (Falcons) first.

My faves are always the Clydesdales and puppy ones. So emotional.

A small group of people are cheering for the other team… It’s right on the tip of my tongue but I don’t want to use bad words today. Right…so go on over to flyingthroughwater.com and hear their side of the story.
