THE ORPHAN’S DAUGHTER by SANDY TAYLOR *RELEASE DAY*

The Orphan's Daughter: A heartbreaking and absolutely unforgettable page turner set in Ireland by [Taylor, Sandy]

The setting is Ireland in 1924. Nora Doyle is a thirteen-year-old girl, living in a rural area where the struggle for survival is very real.

She and her family live in a small cottage that is cold and cramped. She wants to escape being poor, but she doesn’t let it stop her smile.

One day as she and her best friend, Kitty, are watching another funeral procession they notice the big house on the hill. Nora really wants to see the place where her mother worked at one time and has now forbidden Nora from ever going there but won’t say why.

When Kitty talks her into sneaking into the garden, the adventure begins. They find an opening and in they go. The garden is beautiful and they aren’t the only ones there. A boy named Edward is there. The three form a fast friendship that has Nora spending all the time she can in their secret garden. But Nora is sneaking around going against her mother’s wishes. And Edward is the key to a family secret that could change Nora’s life forever.

This one tugged on my heartstrings. The brutal hardships, the loss, and even the friendships.

Well Done! The author pulls us in and doesn’t let go. I like that.

THE SONGBIRD GIRLS by RICHARD PARKER

The Songbird Girls

Detective Tom Fabian’s name was splashed across all news media as he worked to find a serial killer who left one dead bird at each grisly crime scene. It wasn’t his idea for the press to be allowed to follow him around at the same time the killings began.

It was one anonymous tip that led Fabian to the door of Christopher Wisher and his wife and child. That should have been the end of it. It was not.

Wisher wants Fabian to have his journal. Summoned to the prison, Fabian takes the notebook and the next day Wisher is dead in his cell.

Then the killings begin once more. The same manner including the dead bird, which was never released to the media.

It doesn’t take him very long to figure out the cryptic writing in the notebook isn’t a journal, it’s a glimpse of what is going to happen in the future.

Oh this was a good twisty tale! So many shady characters and such a good fast pace made this one I will read again!

The Silent Girls by Dylan Young

The Silent Girls: A gripping serial killer thriller (Detective Anna Gwynne Crime Series Book 1)
‘Ambulance and police. Something’s happened. I don’t know what. But my little girl.’ A sob choked off the sentence… ‘It’s my daughter.’

When a young girl disappears from the edge of the local forest, the Gloucestershire police are convinced she’s been taken by the same killer who stabbed to death beautiful, young Emily Risman eighteen years ago. They’re desperate to finally have the evidence to put him away. To save another girl before it’s too late.
Only Detective Anna Gwynne thinks he isn’t the real killer.
Anna can’t find proof and as time is running out, she realises she needs to get inside the killer’s twisted mind. And she knows just who to ask. Hector Shaw, in prison for killing the six men who caused his own daughter’s death.
Can Anna get what she needs from Hector before another life is lost, or could he lead her down a path that puts her own life in grave danger?

Anna and her partner are working a cold case when another girl goes missing. Did the wrong man get convicted the first time and now that he is out, is he being framed again or is he the Woodsman?

Anna is not only finding few answers, but the detectives who put a man away for the crime for 17 years has now been acquitted and the police may have a few rotten apples in their midst.

There was a real Silence of the Lambs feel to this one. With another serial killer in prison refusing to speak to anyone but Anna. He helps but on his terms and Anna must live with those to see justice done in this case.

Hector Shaw set out to find out the reason behind his daughter’s death and once he did, he became a vigilante of sorts. And this guy is seriously a manipulative sociopath!

The story is the first in a series and I can tell you that I read it all in one sitting because I had to see how it ended. And no, did not see that coming until the very end!

Well Done!

Bones To Pick, A Brie Hooker Mystery by Linda Lovely *Release Day Tuesday*

:Bones to Pick, A Brie Hooker Mystery #1 by Linda Lovely

Poor Brie! A Vegan on a goat farm!  This was a first for me with this author. Now that I know she also has another suspense series, it won’t be the last.

With a cast of characters that include Brie, the vegan chef, and her twin aunts who own the Udderly Kidding Dairy, her mom and dad, the handsome vet, the hot moonshine seller, the interesting Mollye ( with an e) this southern mystery was a very fun read.

The characters are well-developed and all had strong presences. The story begins as one of the aunts unexpectedly dies. Brie moves in with her Aunt Eva to help her with the farm and we don’t have to wait long for the bodies!

At the funeral a skull is unearthed by a pot-bellied pig and the action is non-stop from there.

Brie has her hands full trying to clear her aunts name and keep up with hundreds of goats while she tries to keep from getting killed!

I can’t wait for the next one in this series.
