HELLO JUNE! CAN WE COME OUT NOW?

I love it when a month begins on a Monday! All orderly and stuff. And the sun is shining and the pool is sparkling like diamonds. But the lawn guys are here so the allergy fairy is locking the doors and windows.

Wow, what a past few days we have had. It’s hard to believe this is the country my relatives fought for. Even though all of them were slave owners and relatively horrid people, I would have thought by now we would have all learned we aren’t “special”. That every human being is precious and worth protecting.

But this is what happens when you elect crooks. They lie, cheat, steal, and then like the psychopathic narcissists that they are they toss verbal and real grenades and then run away. It’s not just the senseless killing of people, it’s also the economy, the virus, the total lack of empathy in our orange man and his posse. We are fed up. We need an adult in charge.

OU Boy and I went to the OKC protests yesterday and there were rules. The organizers had a bull horn and you better not step out of line. When they left, the people on the fringe, who are always looking for a reason to act a fool, came in and acted a fool.

So take a breath and I’ll tell you a tale!

I received a text from my baby sister the other day. It simply said, “Your mother is a hot mess”. She’s “my” mother now. So I had to get the dirt. Turns out Momma asked her if she would shave her legs for her. Sister said, “NO, that is where I draw the line!”. Sidenote: That is nowhere near where I draw the line. So Momma proceeded to plop her tiny hiney on the edge of the tub to shave her own legs. First, she cut up her leg then slid off the tub onto the floor making her ribs hurt. Mind you, the first time we took her along with us on the sailboat, she slipped and broke a rib. We will never live that down. But we were all asking the question WHY? Why are you shaving your legs? Her answer was so she could wear capri pants. OU Boy kept asking WHO? As in who is she shaving for?

For that, we have to go a day earlier. She forgot to lock her front door at the retirement center and when she woke up from her nap on the sofa there was a naked old man standing there looking at her. I feel relatively confident it’s only the second time she has seen a naked man. But, hey, if it puts a pep in her step, who cares.

I hope that made you laugh. We all need to laugh. And I can always count on my Momma for a good one!

Love each other

A Little Miscommunication goes a long way!

It’s been a minute since we talked. Here we are in March already and it was 80 degrees yesterday! As the usual Spring allergies kick in, the eyeball situation kicks up!

This June will be three years of eye surgeries and transplant issues. I still have 12 stitches in my left eye. I guess because it doesn’t look different from my other eye, people think it’s fine. One of those people would be me. I dropped the ball on being vigilant and yesterday was a wake up call!

I have checked in hundreds of times now. They know me. But yesterday there was a twist. The receptionist was wearing a black mask. She said she had four questions for me. The first: Have you had a fever in the last two weeks. Me: Yes. Her: You need to go to that room over there and wait for a doctor to come. Okay… I quickly sent OU Boy a text telling him about it. He called and I was a bit weepy and concerned. Little did I know then that this would become an event!

Dr. M came in and asked me what was up. I told him I was coming off of a two week Crohn’s flare and had run a low-grade fever. He cleared me but suggested they put me in the back so I didn’t get any cooties from out front.

Meanwhile, OU Boy is racing across town to the Dean Magee Eye Institute and losing his mind. All he and his GM saw was Crohn’s. They thought it was Corona and apparently when he rushed in to say in a loud voice,  “Where is my wife, they said she is in quarantine!” people cleared out like they had heard there was toilet paper available at Target!

The confusion was cleared up. Or so we thought. More on that. The visit was not successful. My eye pressure was 30. Not good. I have a small abrasion on my transplant. Now I am back to 5 different drops and one salve. Every hour. EVERY hour. I was in tears thinking I’m not going to leave the country when my doctor said if it’s down in a week she’d prefer I left the country. She had just returned from Curacao and said I’d be safer from health threats there. So yeah.

Apparently, our GM called them to ask if he should be in quarantine. Oh lord, we laughed. Especially since his wife graduates from Med School this summer. So no I don’t have the C virus. I still have to self isolate however due to my having a transplant and Crohn’s but I’m good with that. I’ve got books on that TBR list that are about to be read!

Stay Safe!! Wash Your Hands! And if you can’t find Purell, Use 2/3 cup of 91% alcohol, 1/3 cup of aloe gel and some tea tree oil to make your own.

A TEARRIFIC WEEKEND!

High Tea at Inspirations Tea Room in Edmond. Saturday I had reservations to take OU Boy out for a proper tea.

We hit up the gym first thing and ran enough to eat a few sweeties. I went to the market and then got all dressed up and headed to 4 o’clock tea. OU Boy loves the way this place smells. They have a B&B in the back and they sell all things tea and flavored oils, soaps, and just all the pretty things I covet.

We were seated right away and I ordered classic Earl Grey and OU Boy went for Paris. We love that one. I let him eat the sandwiches and I ate the Quiche Lorraine and a scone with lemon curd. There were so many lovely things, chocolate eclairs, macarons, Neapolitan cupcakes, which are a vanilla cupcake with raspberry buttercream and fudgy middles. I brought all the sweets home and shared with my elderly neighbor.  We had a great time. So relaxing and calm and oh the smells were heavenly.

I bought a bag of loose pear green tea and a jar of lemon curd and we came home stuffed and wondering if they would let us live there.

Sunday was beautiful so we ran a few errands, filled out our passport renewal paperwork, had new pictures taken and worked our bums off at the gym.  Then we stopped by the market for eggs, and parked right next to us was the new Lamborghini SUV. Although I could hear OU Boy telling me ” Hey, that’s not your car.” I had no will power and went straight up to the man and begin talking body styles. He is 70 years old and had a huge cigar in his mouth and had just bought it for his birthday. I’m thinking, so is he single?? OU Boy made me get in the car and lo and behold if the fellow doesn’t live in our neighborhood. I may take a run through today.

I hope you all had a good weekend and have a peaceful and productive week! And have some tea.

New Books, New Looks, And Pie!

Another bright and sunny Monday morning here in Oklahoma City. These are the books I have coming out tomorrow! All of them really good. Reviews are already up on the site if you are looking for details!

It was a rain-free and hot weekend! Miss Charli stayed overnight on Friday. She tried on her dress, which is adorable! This lady is so talented and I love that she makes each one. In the USA.

She and I went shopping as she has had a major growth spurt and needed new pants and Fall clothes.

New Room:

They loved their new rooms and the craft table. Little Miss registered her own Firestick and proceeded to watch all the seasons of Stranger Things, again… And brush her hair. This is a new thing. Normally she hates brushing her hair but we found a great tangle-free brush and she sat in front of that mirror brushing her hair for hours.

We were just about to go into the mall when I remembered I had called Clothes Mentor in Edmond and had them hold a pair of Donald Pliner boots I wanted. So out of the mall and on to Edmond. I was not losing these boots!

donaldplinerboot

So we ended up at T.J.Maxx and Charli tripped trying on jeans and smacked her nose on the wall. Luckily she took a few seconds to shed a tear or two and PaPa quickly brought a cup of ice to her. She and I have the same issue with pants. If they fit in the length, they are too big in the waist. Thank goodness for skinny jeans with a bit of stretch to them! We found several pairs and some new tops and hoodies, underwear and socks. I was too upset to even look at anything after I injured the child! We came home and had dinner and she gave us a fashion show.

On Saturday we went to the lake. Trying to string that summer tan along. The water was choppy so we got in a great work out. Probably the last really good one for a few weeks. We are knee-deep in birthday prep for Corbin this Saturday. This Saturday is also the Oklahoma Book Festival and I’m going to that first. Scott Pelley will be headlining along with Anne Hillerman. So I’ll have a full day for that and then it’s off to the party at the park with dinner and Corbin wanted Papa to get them a hotel room at the Marriott and have a boys night. I’m pretty sure that means pizza and swimming. The next Saturday is the Bachelor party weekend at Firelake Casino and Golf Course. And the next Saturday is the wedding!

Luckily all of the pies are made and in the freezer except for the Key Lime and we’ll do those the day before.

Have yourself a good week and be kind.

Hanging On To Summer with Stone Barrington!

It may say September on the calendar, but it’s still in the ’90s here. I am trying hard to ignore Pumpkin Spice anything. So instead I made a cup of Harney & Sons, Heirloom Bartlett Pear Tea, which smells like Summer in a cup and I have the new Stuart Woods featuring my book boyfriend, Stone Barrington. Rich, handsome and suave…

I took a little break this weekend. I checked into the Marriott and swam and laid out in the sun for hours. Then we went to H & H gun range and checked out something I want. Since Cracker Barrel was right across the street I had to go check out all the pretty things they’ve added for Fall. In one store there was Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Yep, all there just hanging together. The smells alone were confusing! Was it pumpkin spice, apple cider, or Christmas tree smell? Actually, it was all of them but I bought the one that smelled like a Christmas tree to sprinkle in OU Boy’s closet. His laundry basket gets a bit smelly at times. I also found a cute fedora hat! Cracker Barrel, where you can shop and eat! Love it.

I found these cutie little stands for the wedding, along with some nice baskets. The wedding room is filling up quickly! I’ve had to move it all into my bedroom because we ordered new beds for the kids and I needed the room back.

It was a great football weekend as well. Except for that LSU win. Ugly. The only time I’ll cheer for Texas is if they play LSU. Sorry, Lisa!

I’ve been gradually reducing my workload so I can retire in the Spring. I’ve gotten my home and personal life streamlined now so as soon as this wedding kicks off I should be stress-free!

OH, I also brought out the Fall and Winter Teas. Okay, I moved them to the front of the cabinet. And just like that, I wanted Gingerbread! lol

Happy Monday Y’all!

AND GREEN IS MY FAVORITE TODAY

greenthoughts

Since I don’t have a Book Review due today, I thought I would just take all those Blog Awards and mush them together and answer the questions!

How did this Blog begin? Because people get annoyed when you are constantly giving them your opinion on what they are reading while in public.

How many books do you read? A lot. And most of them don’t even make it to the blog for one reason or another. Good or Bad, the ones I’m obligated to do go on the Blog.

Things about me:

I hate cats. Horrible allergies but I really just don’t like them although people compare me to one.

I don’t eat meat.

My closet is organized by color/fabric/function. I am compulsively neat.

I despise Romance Books. Same man with the same abs on every cover.

I have a very morbid sense of humor.

I have no patience with pretentious people. Or as my Momma calls it people who put on airs. Favorite saying to those people? You’re pretty uppity for someone who doesn’t even have a job.

I love tea! Shocking, I know.

I play the piano.

I ride horses.

I do not do reviews through the author. Don’t ask.

I own 23 formals. I have a life at night that I know nothing about it would seem.

My favorite color is pink. And Green.

Favorite Movies….Resident Evil, Any Avengers, Gone With The Wind, The Secret of Roan Inish, and Saving Grace ( the UK one) the original Paren Trap

Favorite Music….Halestorm,Paramour, Post Malone, Imagine Dragons, Grunge, Celtic. Basically anything except Country.

So there you go. All of them rolled into one. Now I’m off to review the new LSAT Study Guide. Exciting stuff here! And if anyone needs any study guides for tests, let me know! They need to go to a new home.

A Little Girl’s Heart and a Chance to Help!

 embersfunds1

I would love to introduce you all to Ember and her mom Jessie. When the floods hit Houston and Ember heard about it, she wanted to do her own fundraiser for a specific family her mom helped her choose.

Ember is Charli and Corbin’s cousin and Jessie is their aunt. She also teaches and runs her own ballet studio,( Ascend Studios) which is where we went for the event. Ember is 7 like Charli.

For weeks this little girl worked on making tiny wreaths, Christmas ornaments and other crafts. There was also a table with craft supplies for kids to make and take something. Auntie Jessie had made hundreds of butter cookies to sell by order. I bought 6 dozen!

So today Jessie said they raised around $300! And this was just a private FB pop up event. As Jessie said, ” Can you imagine this time of year and Christmas with just nothing?”

I absolutely love the fact of helping others on a personal level instead of writing a check and not knowing where it goes. And I am privileged to know these two. Ember is always full of great ideas and Jessie is great at executing those ideas and supporting her daughter 100%. They aren’t simply good at talking their faith, they live it. They put faith into action and those actions change people’s lives.

And from what I hear some of the kids thought it was such a great idea they want to do it also. Great kids!

If you would like to help this family you can still do so on their Go Fund Me page. Link is below.

They have been taking care of the homeless in Beaumont, Tx. for two years now. And now, they are homeless. Foster-Adoptive parents Robert and Jennifer…

Courage, Dear Heart…C.S.Lewis

This seemed appropriate today. Actually a lot of days. I know that right now there are a lot of courageous people out there. The ones that rush into danger instead of away from it.

Those people we all take for granted. Firemen, Policemen, EMTs, and all of the people who aren’t first responders but just jump into the mix and do the right thing. While people are hurting, dying, hungry and homeless due to Mother Nature’s events or home-grown crazy folks taking their pain out on the world.

It’s easy to be outraged, and we are. But what are we going to do about it? That is the question. I was taught that Charity begins at home. Much like Peace. But the people we hired to run our government seem to have forgotten that. Houston, Florida, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands. These are American people. Maybe we can not forget them by the next news cycle. Maybe our reporters can actually go see what’s going on and show us.

After Katrina it felt like the entire world forgot Mississippi. There were no roads, no bridges, no anything but heat and hunger. We have to do better by our fellow human beings. I don’t care if you are living in a trailer with a confederate flag sucking down a PBR and wearing a MAGA hat, or If you are giving it your all in the Peace Corp. we are all human beings and the only time you need to be looking down on someone is to compliment them on their shoes.

So now I’ll climb off my soapbox and do my own part. Will you do yours?

Reading, but not much Writing

1490452918633

It’s been raining all day. I didn’t wake up until almost noon and while I wish I could say it was the rain, it was more of me being totally wiped out from yesterday.

The allergy season here in Oklahoma has been intense this Fall. According to the weather experts it won’t get any better until we get a hard freeze. I don’t think we had one last winter so I’m not hopeful. Anyway….I’ve been waking up in the morning and instantly having asthma attacks for hours. Yesterday’s being the worst. And then there come the breathing treatments that leave me feeling like I’m holding a live wire! I hate that feeling. So we set about to try to see what was setting it off only at that time of day.

I am fairly certain it has something to do with the a/c vent blowing right in my face. I hate a/c and would never turn it on if I lived alone. Today a couple of things happened. I woke up and OU Boy had me a cup of coffee ready, as that usually works as well as a burst from my inhaler without all the Albuterol shakiness. Caffeine makes me sleepy and today I was sore from coughing and all I wanted to do was stay in bed. On to part two.

I love my bed. It is old and antique and huge. A sleigh bed with an enormous headboard and footboard. OU Boy has re-enforced the undercarriage several times because I love this bed so much but today he came in and sat on the end of my bed and the entire thing collapsed. It was time to face facts. The bed was dead and there was no coming back from it. Since it took me years to actually pick out a bed I assume it is going to take me a while to find a new bed. So we bought a temporary bed frame and said good-bye to my old friend. And by doing this, we had to rearrange the rest of the furniture, and now the a/c vent is nowhere near me! So maybe my bed was trying to fix the problem for me.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. Or I may have to move to Arizona! I’m pretty sure it’s drier there than it is here.

I’ll get to all of your blog posts tonight I hope!

It’s Sunday! What are you reading this week?

Happy Sunday! Here it is going to be a hot one again. I am reading Christmas books today and just couldn’t get into it. So I lit a Pine candle and now the house smells like a Christmas Tree and the reading is rolling along just fine.

Today is also my little munchkin Corbins fifth birthday! So this afternoon and into the night we will be celebrating him out at GiGi’s house in the country. With all the cousins and Aunts and Uncles. And of course, Spiderman! This little boy brings me more joy than I ever thought possible. He has the most incredible imagination and you are likely to find us wearing capes and running in the yard being superheroes or having chocolate milk mocktinis at tea time.

Like me, he is a solitary soul. He is totally happy playing by himself and making up stories about fairies or super heroes.

Happy Birthday my darling boy. I love you to the moon and back!
