INK and SHADOWS by ELLERY ADAMS

Ink and Shadows (Secret, Book, & Scone Society, #4)

A Secret, Book and Scone Society Novel

This is the fourth in this excellent series! My three favorite things are in the name. Secrets, Books, and Scones! So what has our Nora been up to?

Nora owns the bookstore in Miracle Springs, North Carolina and her window displays are always amazing. This Halloween Nora and her band of helpers decide on a showcase of strong, female heroines. Think Circe through Matilda! It’s a magical display and people are loving it. Well, not everyone. It seems the preacher’s wife has decided to be the moral police and has riled up some of her friends to force Nora to take down the display. And she isn’t the only one on their radar, one of the new businesses in town, owned by the mysterious Celeste, is also being targeted simply because she sells CBD oil products.

Nora isn’t going to let anyone push her around, but she is very worried about Celeste and her daughter. This is where the secrets come in. These ladies have some. And someone is willing to kill over them it would seem.

When Nora finds an odd paper under her mat full of strange symbols, a body is not far behind. Surely the church ladies aren’t behind this?

Nora and the Society are going to have to dig into Celeste’s background and figure out the who, why and how before any more harm is done.

Oh, how I love this series! All the characters are so real. And there is always laughter. Okay, so there is also always murder, but the laughter and friendships these characters have are what keeps me coming back for more.

Grab a cup of tea and a scone and start reading!

One Poison Pie by Lynn Cahoon (A Kitchen Witch Mystery)

One Poison Pie (Kitchen Witch Mysteries #1)

In the first in New York Times bestselling author Lynn Cahoon’s Kitchen Witch series, Mia Malone is starting over in Magic Springs, Idaho—where murder is on the menu . . .

We are very excited about Ms. Cahoon’s newest series. The Kitchen Witch!

Mia Malone is a kitchen witch. And when her kind of fiance’ leaves her she is not only alone, but unemployed, with her ex taking credit for all of her recipes. Well, most of them. And he wants to get his greedy little hands on all of them and is not above breaking a few laws to do it.

Mia moves back in with her grandmother in Idaho, where being magical is not a punishable offense, instead it is right out in the open and all magicals are welcome.

Mia is running a gourmet delivery business, with a dash of magic, to kick off her business. A bit overwhelmed, it seems like a blessing when her nasty ex-fiance’s sister, Christina comes needing a place to stay. Mia loves Christina and has no qualms about bringing her in to the fold.

At her first catering job her client is found dead. Stabbed and stuffed under a table. Shocked to find out she is a suspect, when one of her knives disappears she is also looking pretty good at being the next body under the table.

With Christina, her grandma and her grandma’s connections, she sets out to find a killer and solve a mystery before she or someone she loves ends up dead.

Grandma was just the right amount of meddling in Mia’s affairs. There is a sub-plot with Christina and the Ex going on and a lot of miscommunication.

This is the first of a new series for Lynn Cahoon, who is a master at cozy mysteries. She is one of those writers whose works I read before they come out to the public every time.

Congrats on a winner!

A Curious Incident by Vicki Delany

A Curious Incident (Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery, #6)

It’s up to Gemma and Jayne to root out the killer in national bestselling author Vicki Delany’s sixth Sherlock Holmes Bookshop mystery when the winner of a garden tour trophy is left pushing up daisies.

There is always something exciting going on at the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and Emporium, as well as at the tearoom next door.

Gemma is always busy. She is also well known for poking about in things that don’t concern her. And putting herself in danger. When she finds little Lauren Tierney perched on the stool in the shop, she has no idea that things are about to get even more hectic.

As Gemma tries to explain to Lauren that she is not an actual detective, Lauren begs her to please help her find her missing cat, Snowball. Gemma may not know much about sniffing out cats, but her dog Violet does! When Violet drags Gemma into the back of a garden, they find the cat shut into the shed. By accident?

With Snowball back in Lauren’s arms, Gemma is able to give herself a quick pat on the back for that quick find. But when a few days later Lauren is back looking to hire her again, Gemma doesn’t know what to say. Since Lauren would like to hire her to clear her own mother of murder charges.

This is one of my favorite series. A bookshop and a teashop right next to each other? Yes, please! While Gemma tries hard to stay out of trouble, she seems to be a magnet for it. Do people seriously murder their competition in a garden club? I’m sure they do. Remember the cheerleader mom? These are some seriously good characters. I was even suspicious of the old people.

Another excellent addition to the series!

ABSENCE OF ALICE by SHERRY HARRIS

Absence of Alice (Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mystery #9)

A Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mystery #9

Set in Ellington, Massachusetts, this ninth book in the series is in my opinion the best one yet.

Who would have thought that a cozy mystery based on garage sales would have so much intrigue and danger?

Sarah Winston is our MC and she is a garage sale organizer. She is really good at her job and her business is going well. But now a new competitor is in town and seems to be sabotaging Sarah’s work and reputation.

Busy pricing and organizing a sale for Alice Krandle, a crotchety old lady who has a soft center while at the same time planning her own anniversary sale in the town common.

But all of that has to take a backseat when her friend, Stella, is kidnapped from her apartment. Sarah begins receiving phone calls from a creepy man/woman telling her she can’t go to the police or her boyfriend, Seth, or even Mike, upstairs whose family is in a mob type business, but he is also her friend.

This was like a scavenger hunt, with the crazy person having her run all over town doing things and putting herself in danger. She does secretly call in reinforcements, including Harriet, her friend and former FBI agent.

I think I was suspicious of everyone in her circle except for the old mean man. He was just an old mean man to me. But at one time I was sure it was Seth. Was it? You will have to find out!

Sarah is such a good character. I can’t wait to see what trouble she gets up to next.

COURTING CAN BE KILLER by AMANDA FLOWER

Courting Can Be Killer (An Amish Matchmaker Mystery #2)

An Amish Matchmaker Mystery #2

In the second Amish Matchmaker Mystery by USA Today bestselling author Amanda Flower, Millie Fisher has plenty to keep her busy through her golden years, whether it’s minding a pair of rambunctious goats, meetings with her quilting circle, and matchmaking. But the witty widow always makes time to solve the odd murder…

When Millie came home from caring for her sister in Michigan her young neighbor boy follows her to Ohio. Ben Baughman left home when his father remarried and wanted to start a new family.

Ben has his own place now and has at least four jobs, all in the hope that Tess Lieb will marry him. But Tess’s father has no intention of marrying his daughter off. Instead she can go to Wyoming and live with his sister. But Tess is wily. Does she love Ben or is she using him to get away from her father?

Millie thinks it’s the latter and counsels Ben to slow down but we all know young love won’t wait.

When Ben dies in a fire at his night job, Millie is definitely grabbing Lois and finding out who did what! And lucky for her gossip is thick around town on the whys. Not so much on the who.

I love Amanda’s series. I enjoy the crossovers as well. Why shouldn’t they crossover? They all live in the same small area and know each other and while I wait for another Bailey’s Sweets book, I can find out how she is while reading Millie’s adventures. Brilliant!

I can’t wait for the next one!

They both are suffering the effects of the war. They made some nasty enemies and now those enemies are ready to take them on again.

Gourd to Death by Kirsten Weiss

Gourd to Death (Pie Town Mystery #5)

Pie Town Mystery Number Five

This Halloween, pie shop proprietor Val Harris must patch together clues to solve a murder by pumpkin . . .

You read that correctly. Murder by pumpkin.

Pie Town is back and Val and her quirky band of bakers are gearing up for the annual pumpkin festival. Val is a judge for the pie-making contest and it looks like her boyfriend is entering the contest. Could get sticky.

As Val and Charlene stroll through the booths and the pumpkin patch they find a dead body under a huge pumpkin with a forklift standing by it. The woman was a contestant in the pie contest and the pumpkin belongs to the father of Val’s assistant.

Mazes, curses, pumpkin shenanigans, and a feud with the next town all combine with the colorful and hilarious staff of Pie Town to give us another great installment in the series.

THE KEY LIME CRIME by LUCY BURDETTE

The Key Lime Crime (Key West Food Critic Mystery, #10)

Key West Food Critic Mystery Series #10

Back in one of my favorite places! Key West and Houseboat Row! With my favorite food critic, Haley Snow. Haley and new hubby, Nathan, are still living with Miss Gloria and the pet menagerie while the renovations plod slowly on the newlyweds very own houseboat, so it’s crowded, to say the least.

With the busy time between Christmas and New Year, the town is packed with unruly tourists, enjoying all of the local food and drink. The police are stretched to their limits and Haley is participating in the Best Key Lime Pie contest, covering the event and tasting all of the entries for the local magazine.

Add into the chaos a surprise last-minute visit from her new mother in law, her parents slammed with their own catering business and deadlines due now!

Haley is hoping to entertain Nathan’s Mom and still get everything done on time. But her nerves are stretched.

Local, self-appointed Key Lime Pie expert, David Sloan persuaded the city to host the event and it looks like the competition is deadly. Especially since the newest pastry chef in town is told in front of everyone that her pie is not a pie and can not be entered.

And you know there is going to be a body. And that isn’t even the most surprising thing. Her mother in law turns out to be nothing like Haley imagined. She has a new partner in crime-solving.

This is one of my favorite series. In this cozy, you’ll be biting your nails and drooling in the same paragraphs! The recipes are delish and her writing is so effortless. The characters are quirky and fun.

Well Done!
