The Loch Ness Papers by Paige Shelton

The Loch Ness Papers (Scottish Bookshop Mystery #4)

A Scottish Bookshop Mystery #4

Our main character, Delaney Nichols, is still loving her job at The Cracked Spine in Scotland, and is trying to plan a wedding to the oh so lovely pub owner, Tom Shannon with the long distance help of her family in Kansas.

Everything seems to be hectic but going well until they suddenly have no minister. On her way to meet with a new reverend, Delaney runs into the eccentric Norval Fraser just across the street. Norval has long believed that Nessie aka The Loch Ness Monster, is not only alive and well, but speaks to him and is somehow responsible for his father’s death.

The description of his cottage sounds like an episode of Hoarders, with anything and everything Nessie stacked inside. He is extremely paranoid and would never sell his research but desperately wants Delaney to have it and to keep searching when he is gone. When his nephew warns her not to believe anything he says and then later is found dead, Norval is the only person of interest to the police.

But there are other things that aren’t adding up and Delaney and her boss are determined to squeeze in a murder investigation as her family descends on Scotland.

With suspicious people all around, it will be a tough job and may have her missing her own wedding!

Who doesn’t love the Loch Ness Monster? Weaving a murder mystery around what could be the find of a lifetime was brilliant. The setting was beautifully described, the characters all had flaws and were relatable to us all. I can’t wait for the next book to come out and what other secrets The Cracked Spine is hiding in its warehouse!
