The Man Who Caught The Storm by Brantley Hargrove

The Man Who Caught the Storm: The Life of Legendary Tornado Chaser Tim Samaras

A tale of obsession and daring. A contest between humankind and nature’s fiercest phenomenon. The saga of the greatest storm chaser who ever lived.

At the turn of the twenty-first century, the tornado was one of the last true mysteries of the modern world. It was a monster that ravaged the American heartland a thousand times each year, yet science’s every effort to divine its inner workings had ended in failure. Researchers all but gave up, until the arrival of an outsider.

In a field of PhDs, Tim Samaras didn’t attend a day of college in his life. He chased storms with brilliant tools of his own invention and pushed closer to the tornado than anyone else ever dared. When he achieved what meteorologists had deemed impossible, it was as if he had snatched the fire of the gods. Yet even as he transformed the field, Samaras kept on pushing. As his ambitions grew, so did the risks. And when he finally met his match—in a faceoff against the largest tornado ever recorded—it upended everything he thought he knew.

Brantley Hargrove delivers a masterful tale, chronicling the life of Tim Samaras in all its triumph and tragedy. He takes readers inside the thrill of the chase, the captivating science of tornadoes, and the remarkable character of a man who walked the line between life and death in pursuit of knowledge. Following the tradition of Into Thin Air and The Perfect Storm, Hargrove’s debut offers an unforgettable exploration of obsession and the extremes of the natural world.

Storm Chasers are some of my favorite people. Living in Oklahoma City area we see the cars and trucks with all of the equipment on the roof every day. I live with one and I remember the day that Tim died.

We were worried sick as our family home is in El Reno/Union City took shelter and there was nothing we could do but wait. Over the scanners we heard they had found Tim’s car and at first we thought he was the only one killed, but no.

Tornadoes are one of Mother Nature’s most mysterious creations. The power, the unpredictability, there seems to be no pattern to them at all. Why they demolish the town of Moore almost every few years and then there will be one untouched home in the middle. It isn’t logical and yet we are mesmerized by them. We want to know how they work.

Great strides have been made in early warning systems, but it’s still not enough.

This was a hard book to read and yet it was a beautiful testament to a man who lived life on his own terms. We will forever miss them all.

Her GREATEST MISTAKE by SARAH SIMPSON

Her Greatest Mistake

DO WE EVER KNOW WHAT GOES ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS?

Eve and Gregg were the perfect couple, with the perfect marriage… which has become the perfect lie. Gone is the charming, attentive Gregg – instead Eve wakes up each morning beside a manipulative and sinister man who controls his wife’s every move.

So Eve flees her immaculate marital home to keep herself, and young son Jack safe. Yet no matter how careful she has been, she knows Gregg will be relentless in his pursuit of his missing family. And that one day, when she’s least expecting it, he will find them…

What was Eve’s greatest mistake?

Marrying Gregg? Leaving him? Or leaving him alive…?

HER GREATEST MISTAKE is the gripping debut which will keep you guessing until the very last page. BA Paris meets Liane Moriarty in this electrifying thriller.

After a good, eerie beginning, this book unfortunately settled in to the poor clueless wife who marries the perfect man who becomes abusive and cruel.

This is nothing like a Liane Moriarty book.  The style of writing was odd and didn’t flow well for me. It was too wordy and it felt like the author was trying too hard.

One of my biggest peeves is when a book is compared to other writers works. Come on, this isn’t close to Moriarty.

And I would really like to see this template of supposedly smart women marrying evil, crazy men and just becoming simpering, helpless victims. It’s a template that has been overused and just feels insulting to the reader.

WHISPER THE DEAD~An Alex Duggins Mystery by STELLA CAMERON

Whisper the Dead: A Cotsworld Village Mystery

This is the 5th book in this series.

When Alex Duggins comes across a terrifying scene at the site of a new housing development, once again she is drawn into a case of brutal murder.

A new year arrives and winter holds Britain’s Cotswold Hills in its icy grip once more. But it’s the construction of a new housing development that’s causing the residents of Folly-on-Weir most concern. As she passes the site late one afternoon, pub owner Alex Duggins is confronted by the terrifying scene of a construction trailer on fire and a man desperately trying to break the door down.

Her efforts to help – and the subsequent findings of the police forensic pathologist – draw Alex and her friend Tony Harrison into a major murder investigation whose tentacles will reach right to the heart of the tight-knit Folly community – and into Alex’s own past …

Alex and her mother Lily have a close relationship, but there have always been things her mother just won’t talk about. While she knows a little of the past, her mother and the people who knew her when Alex was a baby aren’t talking about it either.

After all the chatter around the pub about the new development, Alex takes a drive to see for herself. After almost getting run off the road on the way, she is definitely not expecting to find a fire and someone injured!

From there the oddest characters seem to be coming out of the woodwork! Everyone is acting odd and Alex is determined to find out why and who is frightening her mother?

I really enjoy Brit Lit. And I like this series. And there is a shocker of an ending! Eagerly awaiting the next one!

everything she lost by Alessandra Harris

Everything She Lost

After suffering a mental breakdown that nearly destroyed her marriage, Nina Taylor works hard to maintain her tenuous hold on sanity and be a good mother to her two young daughters. Despite her best efforts, she questions the possibility of a full recovery.

Single mom Deja Johnson struggles to overcome her troubled past and raise her young son. But her friendship with Nina brings more complications. What Deja is hiding could not only destroy relationships, but endanger lives.

One traumatic night threatens to shatter Nina’s mind. With Deja’s help, she strives to maintain her mental balance. But as events spiral out of control, the women must find out if Nina is losing her sanity or if someone is plotting against her.

Poor Nina. Her past haunts her, her husband is less that supportive and her friend Deja could just be her undoing.

It’s horrible when you aren’t sure of your own sanity. It’s worse when someone takes advantage of your fears.

Ms. Harris has given us some deeply flawed characters in Nina and Deja. Each struggling in their own way. Both hiding in their own way. But in her darkest hour with paranoia and fear running rampant, will it be someone she knows who betrays her?

Filled with nail-biting moments. Darkness, paranoia, fear, friends who are liars, liars who are friends. Everything a good Psychological Thriller should be!

Nice to Meet You Ms. Harris! Well Done

The Beauty of Spring and New Life

1489338645786

Spring is popping up all over today! Birds chirping, sun burning off the haze and should be in the 70’s today.

Today I’m finishing up    Humor and sorrow join together in Jamie Weisman’s captivating debut novel—the story of an interfaith wedding from the perspectives of its (adoring, envious, resentful, hilarious) guests!

And it is set in Atlanta, Georgia. How could I say no? Georgia girls stick together! So far I’m laughing a lot.

What are you doing this Palm Sunday? Anyone march for life yesterday? I would love to hear about that if you did!

Good Reading and Warm Breezes!

HELLO SPRING, We’ve Been Waiting For You!

1490030630636

It is definitely Spring here. My favorite color of green is Spring Green. That green that pops out on trees promising leaves and flowers. Daffy Dillies are springing up on everyone’s lawn and there is just a newness to everything.

Spring Break is almost over. (Choir of angels sings) There are so many great books coming out this Spring. Some new authors I’ve found and some old favorites so today we are going to laze in the sun and read. And not Run,Spot,Run.

The tiny terrorists are in the living room whispering so I only have a few minutes before all out war erupts over the chalk!

Y’all have a really good day and take some time to notice Spring!
